We all know that this is good advice and after a heart attack most of us start off with good intentions.

I set a target to reach a specific distance on my exercise bike during a 20-minute period while making sure that my blood pressure and pulse were within a safe zone.
I listed all the foods I wanted to eat and all the foods I wanted to avoid. I set a target weight and the date I would achieve it.
The goals were my target; the power to achieve those goals came from the journaling.

Each night I recorded what I had eaten that day and how much exercise I had done. I also recorded my Blood Pressure and how I felt physically and emotionally I also made a note of anything unusual e.g. climbing the stairs without getting out of breath
This transformed my life!
Every couple of days, I would notice a little progress in some area. It might be going a bit further on my exercise bike; it might be someone saying that I looked well; on some days it might just be that I was actually bothered to do anything at all!
Each one of these little progressions encouraged me not just to stick to what I had planned, but to actually do a bit more.
The power was that I had a record of what I had achieved. I could look back and see what had happened each day. So if I was going through a period where I didn’t seem to be making any progress, I only needed to look back a few weeks and I would see that I had gone through a similar period a few weeks earlier

By doing a quick search in my journal entries, I realised that this pain coincided with rainy or damp weather, which backed up what my cardiologist had said.
