When you have high blood pressure (hypertension), your heart has to work harder, and as with any muscle when it is worked hard it thickens.
This causes the left ventricle to become enlarged, which in turn reduces the amount of blood that is pumped, which can lead to Congestive heart disease.
High blood pressure is the major risk factor for heart disease but the symptoms normally don’t
show up until it is far advanced.
Following a blood pressure check further tests will be conducted to check for Heart Disease which will include some combination of an echocardiogram, a chest x-ray or a coronary angiogram.
Treatment will concentrate on reducing your blood pressure and will normally require medication, however there are a number of life style changes that will help to reduce blood pressure and therefore the level of medication:
Weight loss
Exercise
Increase fruits and vegetables,
Reduce fats
Stop smoking,
It’s Your Heart. It’s Your Life.
It’s Your Choice.
